Enterprise Zone 101 and the Upcoming 10-Year Extension

Join IEIA for a one-hour webinar covering the fundamentals of Illinois Enterprise Zones and the upcoming 10-year designation extension process.

Ben Wilson will kick off the session with an Enterprise Zone 101 presentation covering statutory responsibilities, governance, and business incentives associated with the Illinois Enterprise Zone program, using Kankakee County and surrounding areas as examples. Topics will include sales tax exemptions on building materials, utility tax exemptions, and property tax abatements for commercial, industrial, and residential projects. The presentation will also walk Zone Administrators through project management, issuing Building Materials Exemption Certificates, and meeting reporting requirements through the Illinois Department of Revenue's online portal.

Ben Denney of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) will then provide an update on the upcoming 10-year designation extension, including the anticipated application process, requirements, and timeline. He will also discuss the work underway to develop the process and what communities should know as they prepare for this important milestone.
